Volcanic Eruption
Be Prepared
Before an Eruption Occurs
- Discover whether there are volcanic hazards likely to affect you.
- If you live in an active volcanic zone, assume that you may have to deal with the effects of an eruption.
- If you live in an area that could experience a lava flow during a volcanic eruption, know a quick route to safe ground.
Essential items to stock before an ashfall:
- Dust masks and eye protection.
- Enough drinking water and non-perishable food for at least 72 hours.
- Plastic wrap (to keep ash out of electronics).
- Lanterns or torches (flashlights) and extra batteries.
- Extra stocks of medication for both family and pets.
- First aid kit.
